PLAYOFF INFORMATION Revised:
2007-2008 Winter League

Playoffs (Divisional) The number of playoff games is dependent upon the number of teams in each division. The goal is to provide enough regular season games so that teams may be sufficiently ranked to conduct a meaningful playoff. The usual format is to conduct 8 regular season games and 2 playoff games (teams qualifying for the championship game get 3 playoff games).
Our playoffs have been designed with the intent of matching teams of similar caliber. The top 8 teams, based on regular season standings are typically placed in the Championship Bracket. Only these 8 teams have the chance to reach the Championship Game (the bonus 11th game). The remaining teams are placed, based on regular season standings, into Consolation Brackets of 4 teams each. Therefore a 16 team division will have one Championship Bracket and two Consolation Bracksts. After the first round of games in week 9, the winners play winners and losers play losers in week 10 to conclude the season. Again, only the two teams from the Championship Bracket who win in weeks 9 and 10 qualify for the Championship Game in week 11.
Here is an example Championship Bracket and Consolation Bracket.
Under this format, the weakest team over the regular season will be in a 4 team consolation bracket against 3 other weaker teams. The result being that one of the four losingest teams will end the season with two wins and be a consolation bracket playoff winner. In addition, another one of the two losingest teams will win their last game of the season.
Divisions with 6 or less teams have the situation where teams may play each other twice or more allowing sufficient ranking so that a playoff bracket is not required. The top two teams would automatically advance to the championship game.
See our Playoff webpage for detailed information as the season progresses.
The playoffs culminate with the Chino Valley Extravaganza, an all day event to showcase
our championship games. Festivities include a coaches game, player introductions, play-by-play
announcing, post game award presentations, cheerleaders
(tbd), and
raffles/prizes. In addition, games are usually
digitally recorded and available for purchase
